“Somatic Resourcing; Psychotherapy Through the Body”

Psycho-Physical Therapy is a resource-based model of psychotherapy. This means the central focus of the therapy is on supporting a client in developing the capacity to create new options for successfully dealing with the issues he or she brings to therapy. We call these new options “resources”. Resources are those things, actions, and qualities we can draw upon for aid in times of need. Therapeutically, resources are defined as those actions, awarenesses, and abilities that support a person in maintaining a sense of self and a feeling of competency, regardless of what is occurring in his or her environment.

This evening presentation will explore body-based (somatic) resources and their practical usefulness in psychotherapy. A therapist’s ability to identify and work with a client’s existing and missing somatic resources, as well as psychological and emotional experiences, is an important part of successful therapy.

Open to all that are interested in somatic psychotherapy

“The Process of Becoming Embodied for Client and Therapist”

Central to somatic psychotherapy is the quality of both client and therapist being embodied. In order to connect deeply with a client, effectively assess where a client is at in the process of embodiment, and help the client become more embodied in the therapeutic process, the therapist must first have some degree of being in his or her physical experience. This evening lecture will focus on the process of becoming embodied, on ways to enhance the embodiment process and on the significance of the therapist being as fully as possible in his or her body. Please come with your body and enjoy this experiential and didactic evening.

“Mindful Awareness and Somatic Awareness: the Foundation of Somatic Psychotherapy”
Somatic awareness is the body's version of mindfulness. Through dialogue and demonstration this evening's presentation will explore the use of mindfulness and somatic awareness as the base from which new somatic resources are built and mind-body integration is created and sustained in the psychotherapeutic process. This process of building somatic awareness in the client is at the very heart of successful somatic psychotherapy.
